The Boat Company Named One of the World’s Top 5 Small-Ship Cruise Lines by Condé Nast Traveler
October 19, 2026
For 46 years, The Boat Company has believed that extraordinary travel experiences can inspire a deeper appreciation for wild places.
Today, that experience has been recognized by one of the travel industry’s most respected publications.
In the 2026 Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards, The Boat Company was named one of the Top 5 Small-Ship Cruise Lines in the World, placing the company among the most highly regarded small-ship travel experiences anywhere in the world.
This recognition reflects the experiences of travelers who explored Southeast Alaska aboard M/V Mist Coveand M/V Liseron, discovering the remote waterways, wildlife, and wilderness of the Tongass National Forest through intimate, small-group expeditions.
A Different Kind of Alaska Cruise
Founded in 1979, The Boat Company operates two small expedition vessels carrying just 20-24 guests through Southeast Alaska.
With fewer guests aboard, every voyage offers opportunities for meaningful exploration, wildlife encounters, guided fishing, kayaking, hiking, skiff excursions, and immersive experiences far beyond traditional cruise routes.
Our vessels explore remote wilderness anchorages and protected waterways that larger ships simply cannot reach, allowing guests to experience Southeast Alaska from a unique perspective and at a more personal pace.
Recognition From Those Who Matter Most
Unlike many industry awards, the Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards are driven directly by traveler feedback and experiences.
This recognition reflects the voices of guests who have watched humpback whales surface alongside the ship, explored glacial fjords by skiff, pursued salmon and steelhead in remote streams, shared stories around the dining table, and experienced Southeast Alaska through the lens of exploration, conservation, and discovery.
Every voyage is shaped by the landscapes, wildlife, weather, and opportunities that make Southeast Alaska one of the world’s great expedition destinations.
A Shared Achievement
“This recognition is incredibly meaningful because it comes from our guests,” said Hunter McIntosh, President of The Boat Company.
“Every voyage is made possible by an extraordinary team of captains, crew members, guides, chefs, and shoreside staff who are passionate about Southeast Alaska and committed to creating memorable experiences for our guests. We are deeply grateful to everyone who has traveled with us and supported our mission.”
More Than a Cruise
What makes The Boat Company unique extends beyond the guest experience.
As the world’s only nonprofit cruise company, The Boat Company uses revenue generated through its voyages to support conservation initiatives, advocacy efforts, and organizations working to protect Southeast Alaska and the Tongass National Forest.
This mission-driven approach has remained at the heart of the organization since its founding and continues to guide every voyage today.
Looking Ahead
As we celebrate this recognition, we remain focused on the adventures still ahead.
Reservations for 2027 and 2028 voyages are now available aboard M/V Mist Cove and M/V Liseron.
